Step-By-Step Guide To Changing A Tyre

August 21, 2019 By Rokkit

It is an unfortunate reality that puncture’s and flat tyres are not something we can plan for. Changing a flat tyre is one of those life skills that we all need to know. Here is a Step-By-Step Guide To Changing A Tyre

Guide To Changing A Tyre

CMH Mitsubishi Menlyn has compiled a step by step guide on how to change a tyre:

  • Flat tyres often happen in inconvenient locations. On the road, you’ll need to find a safe spot to pull over. If possible, have the flat tyre facing the verge-side of the road, instead of the traffic side. Once safely parked, put on your hazards, put your vehicle in neutral/park and pull up the handbrake.
  • Place your emergency triangle approximately 20 meters behind your vehicle on the road.
  • Look for bricks, small rocks or logs and place them behind the other wheels, to secure the vehicle and prevent it from rolling.
  • Get your spare wheel, jack and wheel spanner from under the floor of the boot/trunk. This may vary depending on your vehicle some vehicles have the spare wheels mounted on the back or underneath of the vehicle.
  • Look for the markings or notches on the metal frame under the vehicle near the tyre that needs changing. Place the jack and proceed to raise the wheel just enough to release the weight of the vehicle. Guide To Changing A Tyre
  • Remove the hubcap and loosen the wheel nuts using the wheel spanner turning anti clockwise, don’t completely remove the wheel nuts just yet. Proceed to jack the vehicle up high enough off the ground to remove the wheel, remove the wheel nuts, carefully remove the flat wheel and place it under the vehicle in-case your jack fails.
  • Align spare wheel rim with the wheel bolts and slot into place, and put back the wheel nuts tightening the nuts in a star pattern (Don’t tighten the wheel nut next to the one you’ve just worked on, but rather the one just opposite it) to ensure even torque with your hands till they nice and snug.
  • Remove your flat wheel from under your vehicle and proceed to lower your vehicle once done remove the jack. Double check that the wheel nuts are snug with the wheel spanner once lowered.
  • Place flat wheel, jack, wheel spanner and emergency triangle into the boot/trunk. Have the flat wheel repaired or replaced as soon as possible.

Service Plan, Maintenance Plan And A Warranty

July 23, 2019 By Rokkit

The Three Main Package Plans

We know that most dealerships offer The Three Main Package Plans. What are the differences between them? The Three Main Package Plans

So, you’ve bought that car you had your eye on and you know the specs and features off by heart. You are happy with your monthly instalments and your insurance is sorted. But are you aware of the manufacturer warranty, or whether the vehicle has a service or maintenance plan?

Most cars are sold with a maintenance or service plan as standard or as an optional extra. But don’t be fooled into thinking that a standard service or maintenance plan is free. The price of these plans is usually included in the purchase price of your new car. You will, however, benefit from no additional costs involved when having your vehicle properly serviced and maintained so you can budget exactly how much your new car is going to cost every month.

So, it’s time to get clued up on what a maintenance plan, service plan and warranty is?

Maintenance Plan

A maintenance plan is basically a service plan on steroids. It comes with more benefits than a service plan and will include wear-and-tear items on your vehicle such as the gearbox, clutch, suspension and brake pads and discs, wiper blades, shock absorbers, globes and fuses, wheel bearings, replacement gas for the air-conditioning system etc. The maintenance contract simply covers any item on your car that has a wear cycle and will need to be replaced at some point during the car’s lifespan – the items not covered by a service plan.

The Three Main Package Plans

Service Plan

The name says it all! The plan covers all the costs of having your car serviced as per the stipulations of the manufacturer. This will generally include the labour and replacement cost of air, pollen, fuel and oil filters, cam belts, brake fluid, oil and gearbox oil, spark plugs and coolant. These services will have to be carried out by an authorised service centre or dealer network to guarantee that the terms of the service plan contract are met.

CMH Mitsubishi Menlyn- Mitsubishi Workshop

Warranty

New vehicles carry some sort of warranty but depending on the brand they can differ. However, warranties are all restricted in terms of time and mileage. Your car’s warranty is mainly a promise by the manufacturer that the faults in manufacturing or factory defects will be repaired, or replaced, within a specific period of time. Items that are covered by the warranty include: engine, gearbox, electric components, fuel systems, audio systems and sensors. It is important to note that a warranty does not cover all items. These items not covered are tyres and brake pads, and any damage resulting from user abuse will also not be covered. Damages caused by a driver’s abuse or incorrect use could void a warranty, as well as aftermarket alterations made to the vehicle. Make sure you familiarise yourself with exactly what is covered under the warranty and for how long.

Service and maintenance plans are not all created equally, so it’s important for you to read and understand the plan you are signing up for. Familiarise yourself with what is covered and what isn’t. And remember, if you’re not sure, ask, this could help save you a lot of frustration and expenses later on.

VEHICLE WARRANTY

May 21, 2019 By Rokkit

Different Warranty Options There are a few different types of warranties one can consider when purchasing a vehicle. It’s always best to seek advice from the dealerships F&I before selecting a warranty suitable for your vehicle, this can save you time and money in the long run.
CMH Mitsubishi Menlyn has compiled a list of a few different warranty options:
  • The Basic Warranty: Otherwise known as the manufacturer’s warranty. These usually come with new cars and cover most of the components in a car that might break down during the early years through normal wear-and-tear. They do not cover tyre or battery replacemnt and you can forget about it if you misuse the car.
  • Dealership Warranty: This is a warranty not from the manufacturer but sold by the dealership. There may be specifics on dealership warranties, such as where you have to go to get your vehicle serviced or maintained, and generally if a component in your car does breakdown.
  • The Extended Warranty: These warranties extend the coverage on a vehicle for an additional period of time after the manufacturer’s warranty has expired. Not all vehicle models are eligible for extended warranties; it depends entirely on the company. It is best to buy an extended warranty earlier on before your first warranty has expired, because the longer you wait and the older your vehicle becomes the more expensive the extended warranty will be.
  • Basic Warranty: This covers a reasonable list of items within your vehicle, such as suspension, electronics, steering and exhaust. It however excludes tyres and batteries.
  • Powertrain Warranty: By powertrain the mean the mechanical components of the car that makes the vehicle move. It generally includes transmission, drive shafts, axle and clutch; but if something like the engine breaks down the warranty company will not pay for a new engine.
  • Rust and Corrosion Coverage: As the term implies, this covers you in the event your vehicle gets a bad case of rust. More specifically it is unlikely the warranty company will replace anything unless the rust eats a hole through the metal. This sort of thing can also be covered through insurance.
  • Emissions Warranty: This is a completely separate warranty that covers any emissions problems you may experience up to a certain number of years/millage. This may be covered under the Basic Warranty, but not always.

  1. Red roses are considered the flower of love because the colour red stands for strong romantic feelings.
  2. Women purchase approximately 85 percent of all gifts on Valentine’s Day.
  3. 220,000 is the average number of wedding proposals on Valentine’s Day each year.

Getting Ready To Kick Start The New Year

January 14, 2019 By Rokkit

Okay it is January yet again, lots to organise, sort out and arrange so early in the year. Are you sending your child off to college with a car? Or driving to and from high school? Is your carpool schedule filling up? Make sure you have your vehicle bucket list completed as part of your back to school preparations in 2019.

Back-to-school is a busy time for everyone! and now is the perfect time to make sure your car is in tip top shape. Be prepared and get ready for this busy time by following these simple guidelines!

  1. Check Your Dash Board: Have you grown accustomed to a warning light? Don’t ignore it! Have it checked out sooner rather than later. Again, catching a problem early will prevent costly repairs in the future.
  2. CMH Mitsubishi- dashboard-warning-lights
    CMH Mitsubishi- dashboard-warning-lights
  3. Headlights and brake lights: Be sure your lights are functioning correctly – brake lights that are burned out are a danger to yourself and other vehicles on the road. For safety, you need to be able to see and be seen.
  4. CMH Mitsubishi- Check brake and headlights
  5. Have your brakes inspected: Worn brakes impede your ability to stop quickly making it more likely you’ll find yourself in an accident. To avoid this a professional mechanic should check your vehicle’s brakes regularly.
  6. CMH Mitsubishi- check Brakes
  7. Know Your Car: Pay attention to your car and familiarize your child with the car as well. Make sure they know where they can find the safety equipment, spare tire and owner’s manual.
  8. CHM Mitsubishi- know your car
  9. Top up all fluids. Yes, that means performing regular oil changes. But it also means checking on all the other fluids your car needs — transmission, brakes, coolants and more. Clean fluids help your engine run smoothly, while dirty fluids can cause damage
  10. CHM Mitsubishi- top up fluid levels

We at Mitsubishi Menlyn have a vehicle to suit your individual needs and requirements, may it be new or Pre-Owned. We strive to assist our clients in making their lives a little easier when purchasing a vehicle, one less thing to stress about when starting the New Year.

Know your Finance at CMH Mitsubishi South

January 9, 2019 By Rokkit

Buying a car is an exciting process but it’s important to acquaint yourself with the facts before signing a vehicle finance contract.

Here are 3 things you should know before signing a vehicle finance contract.

  1. Ask, ask and ask again

When you arrive at the dealership to finalise the deal, you’ll be guided through the process by the dealership’s appointed Finance and Insurance (F&I) representative.F&Is are registered with the National Credit Regulator and is FAIS & FICA qualified, if you have any questions about your finance or deal.
  2. Get familiar with finance

In the process of arranging your contract you’ll be given the option to choose a fixed or linked interest rate. Know the difference, and how this will affect your budget in the short and long term.WesBank states: “A fixed interest rate on your loan will be higher at first, but it will also remain the same for the duration of the loan. Conversely, a linked interest rate will be lower at first, and save you money”. “Make a decision about the contract period. This is how long you’ll be paying off the loan. You can choose from 12 months, all the way to 72 months.”Ensure you know the advantages of putting down a big deposit. By doing so you will save on interest payments, and have lower monthly repayments.
  3. Get insurance

One of the important documents to take along when signing your contract is proof of insurance. This only applies if you have an existing insurance policy and have opted to arrange your own insurance. If you have asked the dealership to arrange an insurance quote, they will provide you with the correct documentation.
    Insurance

WesBank states: “Insurance is vital because you will not be allowed to drive the car out of the showroom without proving to the bank that the vehicle is insured. In the extreme scenario that you are involved in an accident straight after taking delivery of your new car, you can rest safe knowing that your insurance policy will cover everything.”

The F&I will also explain that you are required to maintain comprehensive insurance on the car for the duration of the finance contract. This protects you and your finances – if anything happens to the car, the insurance will pay out the insured value of the car and you will not have to worry about paying back the loan for a car you no longer have
