1. Brake Fluid levels
An essential and probably one of the most important safety aspects for any vehicle is stopping power. The braking system is an integral part of the vehicle’s mobility controls and what can keep you out of harm’s way on the busy South African Roads.
The level of brake fluid in the reservoir is usually a good indication of the life or quality of your breaks. For example: half-full reservoir-50% life span in brakes.
2. Oil levels
We are all guilty of ignoring the petrol attendant when asked about oil levels and with good reason, the best time to check your dipstick is before you switch the vehicle on. The reason for this is that the engine components utilise oil to run effectively so your oil reading will be lower with the warm engine, as opposed to a cold engine.
3. Coolant levels
An important part of your engine’s system which aids in the cooling process of a running motor. Always check the coolant reservoir when that toasty looking icon switches (it means your engine is quarter to toast). 4. Service books and Spare key
Before and after servicing it is always a good idea to double check the dates for your next booking, the best way to keep track is to leave the books in your car.

5. Tyres- Quality and lifespan
In order to get from one place to another the quality of tyres always gives you a sense of assurance at a glance. As when you all went to test for driver’s licence there is a process called a vehicle inspection. This means checking the tyre pressure by feel, observing the side walls for cracks, bubbles and tears.
Look for the proverbial “tamatie/ tomato”, these are the smooth patches or bald spots on the tyre’s circumference where tyre treads are worn out.
